Thanks to CATS, Dominion customers only pay for the equipment they hold, avoiding the problem of “missing” cylinders.
Handheld barcode scanners are used for most equipment movement data entries, reducing the risk of input errors and improving efficiency.
A Marathon Oil spokesperson said the CATS system had worked “exceptionally well”.
Subsea 7 logistics coordinator Grant Campbell said access to the CATS website portal
would improve efficiency and save time.
“There are other companies that do barcode tracking, but they don’t give customers
access to the web portal. CATS is totally transparent,” said Mr Campbell.
Direct access to certification had put an end to long delays particularly at weekends in loading cylinders on to client vessels, which demanded certificates up front.
“We do see big benefits in the future,” said Mr Campbell.
A Chevron spokesperson said, “The tracking system has enhanced our ability to monitor not only the cylinders, but also the gases and their end of life expiry dates."
