Helium Tankers
Dominion Gas operate 11,000 gallon containers, for long term shipment and storage of liquid Helium, the containers are cylindrical and housed in a standard 8 foot x 8 foot 6 inch x 40 foot ISO modular frame.
The container consists of an inner helium container, which is thermally shielded from the surroundings by a liquid nitrogen shield combined with a high vacuum and a rugged, protective outer vessel.
An 11,000 gallon container is capable of transporting 38,000 litres of liquid helium (equivalent to 28,320 m3 of gaseous product) with a 30 day no loss hold time.
Helium (He) is the second lightest element (Hydrogen being the lightest) it is an inert gas and when stored as a cryogenic liquid has a temperature - 269° C, Helium is present in atmospheric Air at a concentration of approx. 0.0005%
The principal source of Helium is from selected natural gas wells around the world (USA, Russia, Poland, Algeria, Qatar and Australia).
Helium can be stored as a gas or as a cryogenic liquid. The most efficient way to transport Helium is as a cryogenic liquid.
