Liquid Gases

Dominion Gas supply a number of liquid gases. The following products are classed as "bulk gases" and are distributed and stored in cryogenic tanks.

  • Liquid Argon, Liquid Nitrogen and Liquid Oxygen (LAR, LIN & LOX) are atmospheric gases produced by air separation process.
  • Carbon Dioxide is generally produced as a by product from various manufacturing processes e.g. Fertiliser manufacturing.
  • Argon (Ar) is a monatomic, chemically inert gas comprising slightly less than 1% of atmospheric Air. Liquid Argon is stored at approx -186° C, Argon is used primarily as an inert gas for welding etc.
  • Nitrogen (N2) is a chemically inert gas comprising slightly more than 78% of atmospheric Air. Liquid Nitrogen is stored at approx -195° C, Nitrogen is used mainly for blanketing and inerting.
  • Oxygen (O2) is an oxidiser, comprising slightly less than 21% of atmospheric Air. Liquid Oxygen is stored at approx -183° C, Oxygen is used for medical and breathing gases as well as in the production of fuels and chemicals.
  • Carbon Dioxide (CO2) is a non-flammable gas and is found in atmospheric Air at concentrations of 0.03%. CO2 is obtained as a by-product of various manufacturing processes e.g. fertiliser manufacture. Carbon Dioxide may exist simultaneously as a solid, liquid and gas at a temperature of -56.6° C and a pressure of 4.16 Bar.

Although not truly an inert, CO2 is non reactive with many materials and is used for blanketing and purging tanks, it is also used as a shielding gas in arc welding, it is also the source of the bubbles in carbonated drinks.
